Has anyone put springs in a tumbler to get them rust free again?
Did it work?
I need to clean 7 quarter sized springs.
If a tumbler will work,
What do you put in it to do the work?
and how much do you use?
and then, of course, how long to tumble?
These springs are shaped like a bee hive.
very bouncy.
Thanks
Rod

I have cleaned dial springs in my tumbler. I used the same procedure I use for screws and such. I bought stainless steel shot from Amazon. There is a large selection there and on eBay. I bought the one that had the most different shapes of shot that was the cheapest. I fill the tumbler half way with the shot & the items to be cleaned, then water to 3/4, as recommended by the maker, and a drop of Dawn dishwashing soap. Some other have used Oxi-Clean which I intend to try. I run it for 4-6 hours, then rinse and change water. Repeat until water stays clean.

Wow! couldn't just make it easy huh? lol
Sounds like an all day process for one batch...
OK, that's more than I started with.
Will try that this weekend.
Thank you Harry!
Can't wait to see how this turns out!
I assume a vibrating tumbler is ok?

Argee

anybody ever used a de-rusting agent like Ospho or Evaporust as the liquid agent in a tumbler?

I never had to use a de-rusting agent, everything I put in so far, no matter how rusted comes out shiny clean. I have a rotating tumbler, not a vibrating one but I think the procedure should be the same. Anyone else used the vibrating one that might chime in?

I see on amazon, many different kinds of SS shot.
round, cylinder, oval...
Which would work best for small springs etc???

HarrySmith

I got an assortment that had the most different shapes in it. I figured the most different shaped stuff would hit the most different spots.
