My first metal 302

I picked up this 1946 Metal 302 with a button on a Kijiji on-line sale site. Had it shipped to me. I really don't know what to make of it. Was it stripped of some parts or was it supposed to be that way?

I'd say it has been stripped of the condenser, the induction coil, and the ringer.  The only parts inside are the dial, the switchhook, and the related wiring.  Have you opened up the handset yet?  There is a possibility that the receiver and transmitter elements could be gone.   It'd make a nice parts phone.  I hope you didn't pay a lot for it!

That's unfortunate.     I can't quite make out the year of manufacture, but it looks like something in the early 1940's.      I've never seen a push button like that before, and most likely an add-on by someone other than a telephone company.
If your interested in making it work, I can send you the proper induction coil, ringer and condenser.     They'll be a "mish-mash" date wise, but the correct type / model for that set.     You pay the shipping from K7P 1E1, and they're yours.

UPDATE:

Jeff Lamb and I met up back in July/15. We had a talk about my first metal 302 and it was decided that Jeff would take on the task of the restoration of this much abused metal 302. Jeff took my phone and kept me up to date with his progress on the 302. He sent me e-mails with updated PDF files. Fast forward to December/15 and it's finished. I picked it up today and I can't believe that it is my phone, it's pristine. Jeff is a perfectionist and takes great pride in his work and it shows. I just can't say enough about Jeff. He is a true book of knowledge when it comes to restoring old phones. Thanks Jeff.

I attached some of the PDF files that Jeff sent to me and posted them with his permission. They show the passion that he has for his hobby.
