Just too lazy to look it up.....
Other than the obvious (reading the back!)..... Found it in an AE47 today that I was tearing apart.

It is related to the early AE dials. I have never seen one with capacitors inside the dial. The capacitors are there to probably suppress switching noise. Noise is created as the dial interrupts current flow to signal the central office what number was dialed.

It is possible the designers wanted to mitigate noise generated inside the phone and being an audible disturbance to the user, or that is affected sensitive nearby equipment by generating RFI (radio frequency interference).

This is how the dial is described in one of my 1949 A.E. catalogs.

Cat. No. AK-47-"Radio·Suppressor" Dial
Used to prevent the "broadcasting" of dial impulses
to a radio receiving set, which may other·
wise occur when a sensitive receiver is located
near an open.wire telephone line. Like dial AK-II
above ("I" to "0" number plate), but is equipped
also with an 0.1 mf. condenser, and a 2.winding
radio·frequency choke coil-all mounted in the
dial base and wired to the springs.

That is the standard dial for type 47 sets.In a type 40 set, the spark  supressor is mounted near the hook switch. The type 47 was crowded inside so it was moved inside the dial.
