5302 and 5304 sets kept the same letter suffixes that were assigned to the 300 series:

         ORIGINAL SET:                                       CONVERSION:
302A (manual, 2-conductor mounting cord)
302B (5HA dial,2-conductor mounting cord)
302C (5HB dial, 2-conductor mtg. cord)
302D (5HE dial, 2-conductor mtg. cord)

302E (manual, 3-conductor mtg. cord) ----------> 5302E (manual)
302F (5HA dial, 3-cond.)
302G (5HB or 6A dial, 3-cond)-------------------> 5302G (5M OR 6H dial)

304A (manual)
304B (5HA dial)
304C (5HB dial or 6A dial)------------------------> 5304C (5M or 6H dial)
304D (5HE dial)

5HA dial has all numbers
5HB and 6A have numbers and letters
5HE has numbers + J, M, R, W
5M and 6H have 164C number plate same color as phone, with dots

If the housing is stamped Bell System, the 1949 plastic 304C, property of one of the Bell companies, was probably converted to a 5304C in 1961 at the Western Electric Distributing House (Service Center), then leased to another subscriber.

Yes, "Bell System made by Western Electric" on 'housing' if that's preferred term.  (Also marked on F1 handset that came with it fwiw.)

Anyway, thanks everyone, for all the information & diagrams for it.  Correctly wiring handset also a big plus.  ; )
