5 digit because that was where #'s ended.
But it appears that the Rubbles had a newer phone - it looks like Betty's phone has 6 holes in the finger wheel!
A phone phanatic since I was less than 2 (thanks to Fisher Price); collector since a teenager; now able to afford to play!
Favorite Phone: Western Electric Trimline - it just feels right holding it up to my face!

Cool, Now we can date it. When did the sixth number come into use?

About the same time Wilma grew another finger on her left hand.

That change from 5 digits to 6 digits must have provided a lot of employment in the CO's. Changing phone numbers from 5 to 6 digits in length is NOTHING compared to adding another level to every Strowger switch bank and lengthening the shafts etc in every switch in every CO. Wow.......

A must have custom phone at a custom price! It works to boot.

And you can still do it at a bargain price. It's still available at a lower price and now with free shipping.

It looks like it was made of "whatever-you-can-get-for-a-token" prizes at Chuck E Cheese! ::)

Up for view is this old not WE but AE crafted with a small paint brush and several different paints. Fast, cheap and hideous.
