Stromberg Carlson magneto phone info requested

As an impulse buy, I picked up a $15 Stromberg Carlson  1248 WI mod. 2 crank magneto desk phone today at a local flea market. There is also a "138" ink stamped on the bottom. I'm having trouble researching this phone on the internet, so I thought I'd try here. What were the dates of manufacture for this phone, it's uses, etc.? The parts inside the receiver are stamped "137" (both pieces), and 34230, and 204782. Can someone share some information on this phone or point me to a website describing this phone?
