There used to be a place on the forum where one could start a poll. I cannot find that place any longer. Is that no longer an option here?

It's right at the top and bottom of the topic, the "Add a Poll" button right next to the "Reply" button.
Nope, they are still available; look over in the right hand corner for them.

But you can only add a poll to a topic you created, not to anyone else's topic.
The post that Ben put up is also correct only by selecting a new poll from the main board, you are indeed creating a new topic at the same time, so, you can only put a poll on a topic you have created (my post) or in the process of creating a new topic (Ben's post).
