Title: Candle stick
Post by: Logan1 on December 04, 2014, 08:20:06 PM
I have a Western Electric Candle stick phone with a 2AB dial and it is stamped 20AL on the back of the post, with a line stamped though it, would it be a 20AL or 51AL  Thanks

if you look on the other side of the perch you should find a marking.

It was probably converted to one of the following:
50-AL, 51-AL or 151-AL.

                                       50-AL              51-AL                   151-AL

Wiring "harness"           4-conductor     3-conductor            5-conductor
Terminal blocks  in base    None               R GN                 R GN; B-Y (RR)
Hook switch                  3 leaves          3 leaves                 4 leaves
Cord to subset              3-conductor     3-conductor            4-conductor
Subset                         Sidetone            Sidetone              Anti-sidetone

I just bought one today that had a 20-AL stamp that was obliterated and 51-AL stamped on the front.  It came with a 534-AR subset (with a relay).  The relay was dated 1936.

If the 20al is marked out, there will be another marking somewhere on the perch.  Look again.
