The reason for the interest in what appears to be a lamp with a junk WE transmitter is the perch and bakelite (actually Ebonite) collar.  These are from the famed 1895 Pacific Telephone "San Francisco Potbelly" candlestick. I was a little surprised when I actually won this thing.  I was watching this end out of curiosity and when the price was still at $38 I decided to give it a shot.  I bid $175 and it came in a little lower.  I'd assumed it would go for $300 or so.   Here is a look at the perch with the correct transmitter attached:

So does the transmitter extend and slide up/down from the Ebonite collar?  Or is it fixed in place?

The perch is adjustable, not telescoping.  It has two positions and is held in place by a screw.

I knew that it was a SF potbelly perch when I saw it listed.  I did not expect that I was going to be the winner.  The complete phone sells for $4000-5000.  Here is the last one that sold on eBay that I know of:
