Anyone know what this tool is for?

Jim Stettler

I think it is for switchboard cord ends. They have a small screw holding the plastic grip.
I have one somewhere.
<edit to add> I have never tried it out.

Quick search on the TCI library pulls up a switchboard plug document.

The screws are 2-56 (i think) with a hole through them. the tool is put through the screw to hold it in place while turning. You will not loose the screw as easily.

.....

Thanks for the info guys, good to know.

What size is the ball? It might be a dialler as well.

Jack you are correct, it fits and the free rolling ball spins when the phone is dialed.  :)

There's an interesting listing in the Neuses 80A catalog with reference to other makers numbers:

Thanks Paul, that information really makes it clear as to what it is and does.

I downloaded the file and found some information on another small tool I have.

You're welcome, Doug.

There's an amazing amount of info about tools in the TCI Library. Even when not looking for tool info I've noticed tools are well covered in many full-line catalogs, as well as several specialty tool catalogs.

When looking for a particular tool, my favorite resources are currently the WE and NE Catalog Cards, a BTL Tool reference (1974 BTL X-75515 Jan74) and doing a site Google search for the tool number.

The Google search often finds references to BSPs that explain how the tool is used in different situations. This time, it led me to the Neuses catalog too. The cross-references to other company codes is useful to find info in their documentation.
