WE candle, "repro", AE Dial, N-205 network, clicks in rec, and can't dial a 1 ??

I got a WE stick, sort of, and wired a mini network and getting clicks when dialing.
need some wisdom on correct way to connect.
There are a bunch of options, and the one I went with, is not so good.
I used the top pic, maybe shuda used the second pic???
