New forum members are very welcome and encouraged to take a guess. After all, there are no wrong guesses, just one lucky one. No one knows the winning bid on any auction until it ends. However, it is important to get your guess in before someone else grabs your guess.

Just listed in a 7 day auction with no reserve and starting at $4.99 is this very nice and old AE desk stand. The seller has not provided much phone information but the images are great. It's an auction contest because I think the phone is worth more than ten bucks. Within the first hour of its listing, the phone received 3 bids increasing the price to a very high, $22.50. How much is it worth, that's the reason for this contest. So, once again, the question is who will place a guess closest to the winning bid at auction ends?

NOTE: we will use a $5 gap rule between guesses again to prevent crowding. As such, keep your guess at least $5 away from prior guesses for this contest.

The seller listed it as an "Automatic Electric Company Chicago Art Deco Monophone Telephone D-78889 Chrome", the item condition as "Used" and " - - - " and with the auction listing description saying simply "Vintage we believe to be Art Deco period Automatic Electric Company Monophone Made In Chicago, U.S. A. Black metal base decorated with chrome accents. Base measures 5" across bottom and handset measures 9". Height is 5-3/4" with handset in place. Condition: All chrome accents look to be in good shape with only very light scratches from normal use. Center plastic lens where your phone number would be visible is discolored, cut and cracked. Phone cord and wire have discoloration and need to be cleaned. We do not have a way to test the phone and do not know if it is in working condition, so in that regard you are buying as-is. Found in storage wrapped in paper."

And the winner of Auction Contest #196 is andre_janew who with the 11th entry into the contest offered the winning guess of $95.00 giving him his 2nd auction contest win. So, once again, our congratulations go out to andre_janew for another win in the CRPF Auction Contests and for moving up one rung in the Contest Standings.

The phone was won by m***x ( 2103 ) with his first and only bid of the auction, a late bid placed just over 2 hours before the auction ended to take the phone home for $94.91. There were no last second snipes. The phone moved up in price nicely during the first 3 days of the auction but stalled at $81 for the last 4 days. It wasn't until the end of the auction that the final and winning bid came in. The auction saw 7 buyers placing 9 bids.

Check out the updated Contest Standings to see who's who through 197 contests and the latest additions to the CRPF Hall of Fame

Thanks again to all who played. As always, there is only one way to get on the winner's board or move up a rung - you have to play to win.
