Federal telephones, can a dial be added to a manual set?

I have never seen a Federal phone with a dial.  Is it possible to install one without modifying the shell?

There's a photo of the inside of one with a dial fitted in this thread - http://www.classicrotaryphones.com/forum/index.php?topic=21367.

The BSP link in that thread is wrong and should be -

https://www.telephonecollectors.info/index.php/browse/bsps-bell-system/bsp-categories-by-early-letter-code-by-doc/c-series-station-installation-and-maintenance/c32-telephone-sets/684-c32-507-federal-802a-1-telephone-set/file
:)

EDIT 1/29/22: NOTE: The above forum link posted 11/18 was updated to include the working TCI link shown above. TCI changed their system a few years ago so TCI links on the forum posted more than a few years ago may be dead, no longer work. Documents are still there, just the URL links have changed so the TCI site has to be searched for the desired document.

some Federal dials were mounted differently than the US standard.

We have learned the hard way that direct links to files in the TCI Library should be avoided.

A better link to the BSP is: https://www.telephonecollectors.info/index.php/search?q=c32.507

It's also helpful to post in text the name of the document, which will help future users, should they need to search for the file. For BSPs, including the BSP number is best.

I can almost guarantee that the file structure will change in the future, due to changes made by our software provider. At some point we may even replace the underlying database structure. Direct links to files are unlikely to be reliable in the long term.

Please post "search links" instead.

It's simple. See: http://www.classicrotaryphones.com/forum/index.php?topic=24338

If the phone has a removable circular cover on the size of a dial, Yes! The next is.. will it work with the circuit inside?
Need to know more. Pictures of everything may help :-)

I have one with an FTR dial that I got from a Signal Corps phone.  It works fine.  The phone was originally shown here: forum link.
