Yes this worked! I had to switch the wires from the wall socket, however. Green had to go to L1 and Red had to go to L2. Rings great lying down, but kind of weak standing up. Maybe need to make an adjustment here although I may just keep the phone on top of the ringer box once I clean it up. I don't really hear the pop in the receiver so I'm not sure I need the additional capacitor?

I have a parts phone where I am thinking I will transplant a "clickity clack" version of this dial (4h?) and a E1 handset with original cloth cord.

If you don't hear the pop, you should be good to go, and the gongs have a hole that is off center, so by loosening the screws and rotating the gongs just right, you may have success there too.
