Can anyone guide me to some GOOD recordings of 70's elevator music? I want the cheesy Muzak stuff.

I want real 'music on hold' music.   ;D

If you want proper, genuine, real and downright dreary MOH, get a Greensleeves MIDI file played on an old SoundBlaster 16 soundcard, that's definitely what everyone heard on most calls where you were left with that on a loop for ages... :D

Dunno where to find muzak though, unless you loiter about in an elevator for hours on end recording the cheese from the speakers...  :D

Wow, Midi Greensleeves would be torture!   :D

I'm thinking more along the lines of:

(Just better recordings)....

I was hoping someone was selling a CD of "Muzak Hits of 1975" or something..

This discussion reminds me of a small radio station in Champaign, IL - WDWS-FM, which played that type of music in the early 1980s.  When I was in college, I used to tune in that station to drown out distracting noise while studying.  One afternoon, I heard a commercial for Wells Fargo RV sales followed by another, and another, and still more.  I was more adventurous in my younger years, so I called the radio station to find out what was happening.  I asked the rather rude person who answered the call how many Wells Fago RV Sales commercials they were going to play.  He replied that he didn't understand my question and asked me if I was hearing the commercial repeated over and over.  I said "Yes", and he screamed "Oh my g..." and dropped the telephone handset.  The currently playing Wells Fargo commercial suddenly stopped, and the radio was silent for a while.

I almost couldn't believe that nobody at the station was listening to their own broadcast, but the station in general was like a parody of a stereotypical rural hick radio station.  Their news reports sometimes had me rolling on the floor.

Up until recently, BBC2 used to show "Pages from Ceefax" during the night, and they usually used in-house music which was very muzak-like, but again I don't know if you can get that on a CD, Tape or Vinyl... :D

Here's the last ever Pages from Ceefax (using an old-style BBC2 ident at the beginning there), just to provide an example of their music, which you could probably record for playback as MOH... :D
