Title: Holding issues
Post by: Babybearjs on December 26, 2017, 11:21:21 PM
I'll put this here for now, as it is technical.... I recently rewired my entire phone system to a "Home-Run" setup for all the extensions. once up and running, everything was fine. everything was working as required and the holding circuit (A-Lead) was doing its job. recently though... I'm having this issue, on line 1, when put on hold... the call gets dropped... the hold circuit doesn't take hold. If I pickup line 2, put it on hold, then pickup line 1....put it on hold, then the hold circuit works... on both lines.. I tried to unplug some phones, but the problem persists. then the other oddity is if I'm talking on line 1, line 2 will start to go into a false hold. I'm on a cable VOIP phone line, would that cause any problems? anyone have any help with this issue?

Sounds as though somewhere something is going on between the two lines. Can you lift the jumpers off of the two line circuits and connect them both to a single phone run and test it that Way? This eliminates all of the possible wiring and telephone problems on all set runs except for the one run and telephone you test with.

You might have a timing issue.the A lead must open before the line is dropped for a call to go on hold on a 1A2 system. Make sure that no line or a leads are reversed or out of sequence

would having the A-lead reversed in a phone cause this? if so, I'll have to check my individual phones.... and it could be at the jacks... I'll have to do some investigating.....

:) :) :) Thank you everyone! I fixed the problem....dirty contacts... I had unplugged all but one phone, and the hold still got dropped. I cleaned the H-Relay contacts and it started working right...  Thank you again for all the support!

for future refernce however it is noteworthy that some VoIP systems will drop a call if a certain duration of silence is detected.

This is used as a failsafe if a call does not properly disconnect.

Thanks Mark! although I'm running a 1A1 system. I'm thinking about switching out my 212KTU for the new one I bought from Cliff in AZ. The one I'm using was purchased from Phoneco, inc. in 2008 and was used to start with. when I first started the unit up, the holding TO cycle wouldn't engage and I found that the FA relay needed some tweaking... adjusted it and the unit has been ok up until now. I think I'm going to switch out the units and retire this older one... I think the thermocouple is wearing out too... after assessing how much work its going to take to make the change, its no wonder why this system was upgraded to the 1A2 system.... plug-in cards are a lot faster to replace then a 212KTU... but, that's what I've got.... it keeps me busy! I finally ordered a Rack mounting from Rosewill and the crossbars from deep surplus.... so I can finally mount my 3 208KTU's and get them wired in. love the old stuff.... as long as it works, I'm going to use it.... and if the rack mounting has enough room.... then I can house my 211 and the other 207 to get those in a secure environment. if you'd like pics of my setup, just ask....
