Very nice looking telephone, Dan.  Is that a natural finish or was it refinished at some point?  I like the routed out portion...I know it has a different name.  That was a deluxe model??  I'm not much of an authority on wood.  I do have a 317 as well that was given to me.  It's in very good shape but is darker than yours.

It's the first 317 made by WE, I'm currently replacing all non WE parts with original WE works. I have the original transmitter that I'm refurbishing and will install it shortly.
I got  out bid on 3, of the original Pony receivers, but my gosh they are steep....
