Absolutely any and all members are very welcome and strongly encouraged to take a guess in this contest. After all, there are no wrong guesses, just one lucky one. No one knows the winning bid on any auction until it ends. However, it is important to get your guess in before someone else grabs your guess.

A suggestion was made to run a "Special Auction Contest" on several of the "Old Telephones" phones being sold by way of Morphy Auctions. Each of these special auction contests will really be nothing more than a chance for members to take a one shot guess at the winning bid, if the phone sells, and it's all just for fun.

These auctions will end at various times this weekend, on Saturday and Sunday, so throw you guess into the ring. Since most of us don't have a clue as to what these will sell for, offer your best guesstimate and lets see what happens.  And, since this is a "special rules" no winner contest, the best guesser will not be included in the Hall of Fame or be counted in the Contest Standings as a win. This one is just for fun.

All I ask is that 1) guesses be at least $25 dollars apart, 2) only one guess per player (can't revise a guess) and 3) no guesses will be accepted with less than 1 hour ("yes, one hour") to go in the auction, special rules for a special contest . . .  ;)

. . . this is the phone being auctioned:

Lot # : 805 - 1900 No. 21-A "Erie"
(Estimate :     4,000.00 - 5,000.00 USD  per the Morphy Auction listing)

More photos and information are available at the above link.

The seller described the phone as a "This may look like a common candlestick but it is one of the more rare Western Electric upright telephones because it was only made for about a year and there are very few of these that are known to still exist. It is the model No. 21-A desk set, called the "Erie" model because it was made by Western Electric Company for the Erie Telephone & Telegraph Company in 1900. It was patterned after the Bell Wisconsin candlestick and is equipped with a White Solid Back transmitter code No. 122 bipolar receiver. This telephone is in outstanding original condition, including the thin leather base plate under the base. Size 11" T."
