I vote fake. Bronze colored metal and the combination of a wooden box with a relatively modern dial are suspicious. The transmitter assembly also looks coarsely built and "just not right". The phone might very well be "old" (=over 30 years...) but not antique.

I could be wrong though...

The bells on top help indicate it may be real vs a bell box makeover. In the US many homemade compact woods used bell boxes with front bells vs top bells like a typical compact wood. This is a US based observation.

My vote on this phone is non-original.
It just doesn't look right to me. However I am not familiar with this model of phone. and that is a gut guess.

I t does look like it was refinished with the parts in place vs a proper tear-down.
It looks like there may be an issue on the holes in the top by the bell.

I would agree on not original. The receiver & cord look like the ones that appear on cheap Taiwan candlesticks. I do not know the model either but also agree it just does not "look right". Pictures of the inside may reveal more.

Yea after looking it over well the whole thing looks repop, not original.
As Harry pointed out the receiver cord is a cheap cord if it were any where close to original they would have found a decent cloth cord to put on it.
And the metal peices just look "new", not old at all.
Some one tried to add patina but it's too uniform, natural patina just doesn't look like that..

These are made in India Has a ITI type 24 dial .Working parts out of mere modern telephone sets. They also make poor looking brass or nickel plated candlesticks. Sometimes marked GEC .

It's not really a reproduction as it is not identical to anything. It is a phone made in the style of an antique phone - a decorator phone.

I guess that's what you mean.

Now the difficult question - what is the etymology of the word "repop".

Undoubtedly a repro, or more correctly a decorator phone as Jack Ryan said.
Nicely figured piece of wood on the front - can't say much else good about it.

Dial looks Indian to me, endcap looks same style as that from a 164 handset (ITI #18 below for comparison).
