For years I have struggled polishing small parts like washers, screws, etc. on a polishing machine.  Many parts have gone flying into some mysterious location when I caught an edge.  As I get older, I find even holding some parts is a challenge.  I have tried various methods including pliers (scratch the surface).  I mentioned this to some model railroad people and they asked me if I ever tried a "ring clamp".  I found this one on ebay for $6.30 and free shipping.  It has really helped.

I've never heard of one, but I can see how it would work.  Thanks for the info.

PS the nickel job you did on my 293 parts continue to get compliments from people who see the phone on the wall.

Thanks Dennis, that will certainly come in "handy" for a lot of stuff.

Kind of looks like a clothes peg, that ought to keep the clothes on the line in a windstorm... ;D

But no spring. That wedge to be driven in to clamp the jaws on the item to be polished would put a lot more pressure on the part than a spring. I bought one.
