AE or AE (American Electric vs Automatic Electric)

American Electric and Automatic Electric both used the Monophone label.  Phones look similar. Exact in most cases.  Who came first, is Automatic Electric the same company as American Electric? Is American Electric older? I think it is, this is just confusing. Terry? Stub? Anyone..set me straight....Doug

Automatic Electric bought American electric in the mid 1920s. Automatic Electric used the American Electric brand on mostly manual 
equiptment. I do not know which is older. American Electric late 1890s or so . Automatic Electric I think is a newer brand but was formerly Strowger

thank you for clearing that up.. I though American Electric was Western Electric back then...
