Still no opening bid but that sort of fits with what I've noticed in some prior auction contests. List it low and get it bid up to about $100 over the first few days and then sit their until final second snipes. List it at $100 and it sits there with no bids until final snipes. At least listing it low to start exposes the interested parties. Listing it high and no one knows what interest (how many people are willing to bid) the phone has until the end, and it probably goes for less because of that. Anyone agree or disagree with that hypothesis? Or have their own?

think it's gonna depend on whether the interested potential buyers realize it's not a garden variety ivory 302.

Yes, there is definitely that but I still think by starting it high, it doesn't generate that flurry of "just listed bids" that become a flag to those who may not realize what it is causing them to take a second look. Activity generates activity. No activity because of a high starting price may cause some buyers to overlook the item. For example, 9 bidders offering 11 bids on the first two days running the price up to $95 would get my attention as to what is going on here. An opening requested bid of $95 with no bids for 5 days sends a different message, if any message at all. IMHO, of course.

And, the winner of this Auction Contest is wds who with the 6th entry into the contest offered the winning guess of $175.00.  That guess gave him his 6th win in our auction contests. Once again, our congratulations go out to wds for winning this Auction Contest and moving up a rung in the Contest Standings.

This WE pre-war ivory 302  received no bids during the 7 day auction, that is, until the final five minutes when 9 bidders moved in and had a fun time seeing who could get this phone at a bargain basement price. The final snipe was from h***m ( 1014 ) just 3 seconds before the auction ended and with his first and only bid ended up taking the phone home for a mere $183.50! What a steal deal. The phone attracted 9 bidders offering 11 bids.

Thanks again to all who played. As always, there is only one way to get on the winner's board or move up a rung - you have to play to win.
