Title: $400 for a 584 Subset
Post by: Doug Rose on January 19, 2016, 08:10:50 AM

Anyone follow this auction? $400 for a 584 subset! Instead of gongs it has the "chimes" inside that some old clocks have.

I like the looks of the inside and would look great with a Kotke clear on it, but that would be a $500 subset.  Wow!....Doug

I watched it - very high price.  Plus, it's not even a subset - just a ringer ( chime gong ).  If anyone has one of these ringers, now is the time to put it on Ebay!

That ringer looks familiar. Is the seller one of us in the forum?

This one is a subset and not a ringer as Dave pointed out in my first post. But the same $400 price tag....Doug

Yes, now other 'hoarders' are trying to cash out (or in?) too, while the goodies are 'hot'.  The  No. 39A cathedral gongs seem to do the same to the price of a subscriber set that the straight cords do to an early colored 500 set.

I'm starting to think that TCI and ATCA members need to be educated in what is reasonable Retail. some of these guys think that people are rich beyond belief. I wish that Ebay still had its forums... that used to really help.... on the other hand.... If you think its worth more then it is, then you probably Don't want to part with it, and so....Please Don't waste everyone's time and DON'T LIST IT!

John - I understand your frustration, but the ringer box Doug started this thread with sold for $393.  The subset has 9 people watching and a "best offer" option.  That seller may well get their price, or something close.  Ebay is a market of buyers and sellers looking for a match.  That seller just needs one buyer at or near his price and everyone is happy..... except maybe the next guy who wants a similar item and is hoping for a lower price.   I'm starting to feel that way about 500s.  They used to be more reasonably priced, but now the soft plastic colors and especially the P/U (mushrooms) are much more expensive......   Higher prices are an opportunity for us to sell some things we have and maybe take the extra dollars to buy something else... ;)
