Have a very nice old AE that has very low incoming reception, can barely hear.  Rings solid, outbound solid but can't seem to find the issue with the low audio.  Placed some photos in the event its obvious or if anyone has any tips on curing thsi one.  Thank you...Tim

Have you tried sanding the contacts on both the wires, the actual contacts, or the back of the ear piece?

On that type of rec capsule, make sure that the connections under ths screws are proper .There is a veristor on the insise and if screws and lugs at wrong angle, it will shprt out

Tim,
Try using another receiver. I've had several receivers on AE phones like yours that just go bad. stub

My nearest AE might electrically might be the ae80e. Electrically thy should be close or identical.

One way to test the handset assembly with cords may be to just remove the handset and cords from the telephone, connect black and green together, (tape or keep isolated from other conductors) connect the 2 others to a battery 4.5-9 v and listen to yourselves when you talk.

Placed a different Stromberg receiver in line, worked perfectly, thank you all.  Tim
