Thanks Recrum, I have it printed out and will contact you if I have questions. I am getting quite a few of these records into an Excel sheet now so one day I will take a stab at deciphering it all.

A quick check of my spreadsheet shows that the "A0" code that both of your phones have is consistent with Numbers Only Dials where the numbers are black on white porcelain.

All contributions are welcome. It is a bit of work to fill in the Code Survey Sheet but it is also an opportunity to check out in detail and create a record of your AE phones for the future.

It was a great idea, you starting this thread.  I was educational for me as well.  Gave me a chance to really get in there to check out all the numbers on everything.  It was doing your survey that I noticed the smaller capacitor in the upper half was labeled "test".  If you have any questions feel free to shoot me a message.

That's great Argee, thanks for doing that. You guys will keep me busy later this afternoon when I transfer all the data into the Excel sheet.

Okay Argee, got your info entered and have a few questions.

Phone 1 AE 34:
Des number is just 5 digits 86263?

Phone 4 AE 40 with ype 38 handset:
Dial is type 24 so it clicks when you wind it up, correct?

Clicking on wind up versus quiet wind up is all I know about differences in the Type 24 vs Type 24A36 dials. I guess I should try to figure out all the other later models one day. If anyone has any sort of list of AE dial types let me know. Type 51 next but how do you tell it from the 24A36? What came after 51 etc....

And a few more questions across the board. I need to add these to the sheet:
Do plain (non metal banded) caps on Type 41 handset have grooves routed in or are they smooth?
Ringer Left Coil Number
Ringer Right Coil Number
Ringer Ohms
Capacitor(s) 2 seperate or 2 in 1?
Capacitor MF's marked?
Capacitor Part Number?

Argee: If you have time to answer any of these questions it will be appreciated but don't worry about it if you don't have the time.

Thanks Kenny, I'll add that to the data base. Now that you mention the black bakelite plunger buttons you have me thinking about that. There are some black plunger buttons but aren't they brass painted black? Quite often the very top end is worn from the handset resting on them and you can see that they are brass inside. Let me know if you think yours are bakelite.

Thanks again......Terry

I just tested the tops they are definitely Bakelite. They have gotten dull over the years.

Glad I could help.
