Hi all,
Just joined today. I walked around vintage shops this morning and
came across several 70s rotary dial phones and suddenly I got interested in the classic look :)

Now I don't know much about rotary hones.
Is anyone here in Australia? Does anyone know if rotary phones still work
in Australia?

Hi,

There is a gal on here named Rotary Rose from Australia.

Here is a link to one of her threads:

Welcome to the forum! There are phone collectors in Autrailia and as previously stated we have a member there. There is even an Austrailian Phone Collectors Club I remeber hearing about. Rotary phones should work fine.
That being said TAKE WARNING! These things tend to multiply quickly. This "interest" will soon be an obsession! I call it Phoneitis. Once it gets you you will need to have all the colors of this model, then you will find a different model that you like or a different manufacturer and soon you will need more space for them ;D

I've not had the urge to do the 'complete colour range' form of collecting so far. I just buy phones I like.

Unfortunately I like quite a lot of phones.

Australia changed to voip entirely... so in order for your rotary phone to work you can either use a dailgizmo (another Aussie device) or your service provider has to allow you to have your own ATA/modem then you can get one that supports pulse as per List of Pulse Dialing Capable ATAs and Hardware

PS: Sorry didn't check the date on the initial message.... so here's an 11 years late reply
