I was talking with some of our "Support" in India today at 10:30 AM. It was already 2013 there. They are 14 Hours ahead of PST on the West Coast of North America.

Have a good one everybody, Drive Safely!

Hey, Happy 2014.  It just seemed like 2000, and now already it's 2014.  Where has the time gone?

Yes I remember thinking how confusing abreviated dates would be after 2000. 01/08/04  or was that 08/01/04  but then again maybe 04/08/01 only of not 04/01/08 ??  They missed the boat leading up to 2000 and all the Y2K concerns to set a world standard for abbreviated dates to end the confusion for once and for all!

2013/Dec/31 - My favorite as it leaves no confusion but the "Dec" part doesn't sort properly in computers of course.

2013/12/31 - My second favorite as it will always sort properly in computers and is {IMHO} logical in that it puts the three categories in decending order of importance Year-Month-Day.

I know...who asked me!

I agree.  I always use YYYY-MM-DD as part of a file name that I want to get sorted correctly.

Y2k was such a non-event.  I was involved with a start-up bank in 1999.  (Not the bank I am currently with).  The FDIC would not give us our charter until we had a detailed Y2k contingency plan in place and we had assurances from all our 3rd party vendors that their services, software and everything else was y2k compliant.  I remember cutting my 2000 new years eve festivities short to go into the bank at 11:45pm and stay there until after midnight to test everything to make sure the system didn't blow up.  Nobody really thought it would, but that was in our contingency plan, so that's what we did.

It sure gave Y2k consultants a way to make money for a few months.

Happy New Years from snowy PEI. We just got a Skype call from my son and his girlfriend at Parliament Hill in Ottawa. They had planned to stay for the fireworks, but are thinking twice about it, as it is minus 17 c. (1.39 f.) and windy, with three hours to wait :)   They sure looked cold! They called from their smart phone.

It is the same temperature here, but we are safely inside!

So from the Frozen North  (and North-East), a very Happy New Year!

Sorry Dave, no lower than +5C here overnight.  We're on the "left coast" but it sounds like you're on the "wrong coast"!

Y2K was such a dumb idea. My grandma was so scared of Y2K that she stocked up on some sort of canned food that she didn't even like. When the year 2000 hit, and no apocalypse came, she had piles upon piles of canned food that she hated stacked up in her basement. ???
