557 Receiver Diaphragms

I have two 557 receiver elements (for the E1 handset) that have different characteristics with regard to their diaphragms.

One diaphragm is very shiny black on the outside and has a dark sort of polished brass finish on the flip side.  I believe it's the original one for this 4/30 dated element.

The other has a very dull and chalky almost charcoal finish on the outside and a flat dull greyish silver finish on the flip side.  That element is also dated 4/30 but I don't know if  the diaphragm is original to it.  I'm thinking it's not.

Was either designed as an improvement over the other or are they an example of a more costly component being replaced by a less expensive one to produce?  I can't notice much, if any difference in sound quality.

The OPW site shows the dull version.  Is the shiny one more unusual?

I only have three, but they're all the shiny black/bronzey gold type.

Thanks.  That's the one I've opted to use.  The chalky one was ever so slightly warped on one edge, but I think the receiver cap flattens it out fine when tightened.  The shiny one is perfectly flat, so I consider it the better option.
