Welcome Tom, and Merry Christmas!

You've come to the right place to learn, and interact with some phenomenally knowledgeable people who are happy to patiently share with you!

I have kin in the Leesburg / Pittsburg TX area (Lake Bob Sandlin). Whereabouts you located?

Best regards!

Hi Tom and welcome to the forum! You have found the best forum on the net with the best people who are willing to help and share anytime! Yes, you can definitely build a system for your home. There are some here that have their own Central Office set up in the basement. You can go as far as you like, or can afford, in creating yours. I usually give new members a warning about Phoneitis but it appears to be too late for you. Just be aware that it is a progressive disease with no known cure! Soon all your spare time & money will be spent on old phones! You may need to build an addition to your house to display all the phone stuff that will be appearing soon. They seem to multiply on their own!

Welcome!

Of-course want to help you, and it is definitely possible to make a system.

It is pretty many different systems so it is important to know what you want.

Old magneto telephones, crank one and all telephones rings.  Systems with lots of wires, and a button for each extension. A traditional system lifting off the receiver, and dial the extension you want.  and many others...

I started with the magneto system, but have rewired, and ended up with an exchange.  (so far)

My dad told me about a guy who set up a small network using two magneto phones.  It got its power from a 6 volt car battery.  This was probably back in the day when such phones were cheaper and more plentiful.  There are farm stores and implement dealers that still sell the 6 volt car batteries nowadays.

You really don't need such a large battery, and 6 Volts is also more than you need. Two D 1.5 Volt batteries (3 volts) for each phone will be sufficient.
