there is this western electric 24B8-50 line station indicator for sale on ebay,can someone explain exactly what this instrument does? thank you.

Do you have a link SPM? By the title (no idea by the model number) I would guess a busy lamp indicator for a receptionist to show (illuminate a lamp) which stations are off hook and which aren't. But I could be completely wrong and the time frame it was produced in may help out as well.

LSI=Line status indicator and not "line station indicator" stated by the seller. It actually shows the status of lines---off for idle, flashing for ringing, and steady for in use---rather than stations. Any station using that particular line will cause the lamp to light up.

On a Key System, there are BLFs (Busy Lamp Fields) that do show status of stations, regardless of what line they are talking on.
