Another 202 joining the stable running on a 685a subset. I'm worried about REN limit and worried about neighbors complaining when I get calls with a fifth WE phone deployed. How to disable ring while preserving subset function?

I believe the ringer is the same in a 685A subset as in a 500 set.  You could just unhook the wires to the ringer if you don't want it to ever ring.  Subset function will work the same.  If you want to just adjust it to "off", there is a "stop" clip on the inside ringer adjustment that you can bend up, so that when it is adjusted to the lowest setting, the bells will be so close together that it will not ring.  It still uses current this way, though.
