I think that's a phone collector urban legend. If it were true you would find a lot of them in nickel and un-insulated. I find most of these on 20-AL and dial candlesticks.  I believe these were "heavy duty" hooks.

I just sold a long pole on Etsy and I am a little annoyed by the new billing/fees system they have in place.  They seem to have set up their own system to avoid PayPal.  Funds aren't available until the next business day, and I received a $10 "transaction" fee on my final sale in addition to the usual cut.  They also stick you with $.70 to print out a shipping label with no discount (like eBay has). Still less than eBay's 10%, but not by much.
