Hi

I have a 553A with single cap and I would like
to wire a 4H dial in anti-sidetone configuration.

Thanks

The differences between sidetone and antisidetone are more than just the dial and a second cap.  Take a look at the schematics on the TCI library site and you will see that you also need the antisidetone induction coil and a hookswitch with one more contact set than the 553 has.  See the antisidetone 653.

You may probably use any dial, regarding anti sidetone, or sidetone reduction is this a solution built in to the hybrid to reduce the level of your own speech without reducing the level coming from the other end.

The anti sidetone  function will traditionally be recognized by the using of a 3 or more separate windings coil.
The non anti sidetone coils has usually 2 separate windings. Kellogg has made some phones using only a single winding coil.

If you are using a non original dial, just be sure of having the pulsing contact on one of the lines, so it breaks all the current. The rest of the contact sets may break the current to the receiver, or short the receiver, or short the hybrid circuit, additionally it may be contact sets shorting the transmitter or/and other parts in the circuit. If you have several contact sets, the set who works first when moving the dial should be used to the receiver to prevent loud clicks.

In this phone when a 4H dial is used the R-BB contacts are connected together making the dial act like a 2A dial.
553 are sidetone sets and use a 46A coil and a 21W condenser. Also the switch-hook has only three leaves(springs).
653 is an antisidetone set and can use a 101A coil and a ring condenser and a talk condenser. The switch hook would have to 4 leaves like a D1 202 phone has.
