Leaving the forum
« on: August 14, 2019, 12:27:29 PM »
I am seriously considering leaving the active community of this forum. This is partly to concentrate on my telephone-interest Youtube channel 'Andys Shed' but mainly because I am absolutely fed up with the over-zealous moderation and interference to topics and posts by those who have been given a modicum of power.

I don't see why I should continue to be dictated to like a child by total strangers who do nothing to add to this hobby.

Moderators here are the reason I am considering thios action and I definitely WILL leave if this post is interfered with in any way.

Hopefully some of you will be fast enough to see this!  ;)

My advice... Get rid of the moderators! I will shortly be starting my own forum, which WILL be unmoderated.
Call me on C*net 0246 81 290 from the UK
or (+44) 246 81 290 from the rest of the world.

For telephone videos search Andys Shed on Youtube.

I have never experienced any over-zealous moderation or intereference with anything I have posted on CRPF, so frankly old sport I haven't the faintest idea what you're on about.

In my opinion, the moderation could occasionally benefit from being a bit more zealous.

Well, toodle-oo and best of luck with your unmoderated forum.

Andy;

I take personal offense to your accusation that the moderators have done nothing to add to the phone collecting hobby.

Maybe you have overlooked my thread on the old phone I found.  http://www.classicrotaryphones.com/forum/index.php?topic=2394.0
I fully understand it probably added nothing to the knowledge of our hobby, or the forum, however, if you take into consideration that the thread has 385,512 views,  if each view was 10 minutes in length reading that thread, that would collectively add up to one person spending 7.3 YEARS reading that thread. That seems like a shameful amount of time for people to spend and gain absolutely nothing in return.

When you establish your "new and improved" forum, please return and post a link to it,  so I can see how you accomplished the impossible. As long as there are two people on the planet, you are going to have disagreements.

For the first 8 years or so this forum operated, I can not clearly recall a single confrontation that needed to be moderated, in the past two years it seems it's a daily occurrence. It gets to the point where it seems to me the only response can be a sarcastic one.

I also have not had an issue with moderators here. I don't know how long you have been here or how much you have read but there has been a ton of useful information, procedures & documentation provided by every moderator, past & present.
Good Luck with your forum. I hope you find what you are looking for there.

For a periode it was necessary for the moderators to be extremely strict, I  am not sure about we have to keep it that way. I guess it would work fine by going back to the old way doing it now that we have solved the problems.  I am sorry to see that you feel that way, and should really wish that it could end good.
As we know you are not the first one leaving, I am sorry for that, lots of valuable information, help and hints are found here, not always easy, but it is here.  I do not see that you need to make your own forum, it will not be good for any if we had one each ou us.  For UK phones it is a forum, not as big as this but already there full of info: https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=111

Other x-members here has tried to make their own forums like this: http://thetelephonetalk.com/forum/index.php   close to 0 response, so my suggestion is to stay, and work for a more liberal moderation.
And please try to not heart anybody's feelings.

The 'telephonetalk' forum in the link above is a good example of why unmoderated forums don't work. Of the few posts I see there, the vast majority are spam posts with links to pornography. How does that add to this hobby?

Andy, it's very clear you don't like this place.
And that's your choice, don't start any fires because you too will join the minority. Start your own unregulated forum, my guess is it won't last long.
But the majority have spoken about these issues already.
Cause problems get the boot. Play nice with the rest of us, and enjoy this place like the rest of us.
Otherwise, bye bye. It's been... Different.
