I want to replace a hook switch with a toggle switch. Since it is still just a switch I believe that is not a problem but by reading diagrams I am not sure what goes where. I have not had the chance to sit down and try it yet, that might make it easier to see. Any advice will be appreciated :D

Harry:
I think you are going to need a double pole switch.

Do you want to make it a switch on, switch off, or a momentary switch, or push button ?

Just on & off. Switch on to answer or place call and switch off to disconnect.

If I am reading this right, you might have a little problem. With a regular hook-switch both contacts don't close at the same time when you lift the handset. The contact for the transmitter closes before the contact for the receiver. This way the condenser discharges through the transmitter before the receiver is connected. This eliminates a loud popping sound in the receiver.

Ok, yes. I did not think about that. But if you switch it on before you pick up the receiver the phone would still function fine correct? It would just be the original noise when it is activating.

There is only do, or do not. The explosion probably won't be real big.
Or use two switches & flick the transmitter one on first.

Leave the switch hook circuit without modification. Use a switch to turn on and off the line current.

That was my original thought ;D
Then I thought it would look cleaner without it ;)
