OK....  I am going to give in and buy a system for my old 500's.... so I can use them.    NOW.... which one should I buy ?
I am not looking for anything beyond something I can plug into and have the phones ring when calls come in.

Thats ALL I want.
what's the cheapest new system I can get away with ?  I want something basic.... and as small in size as possible.

I have about 6 phones or so I would love to have ringing....  all at the same time would be fine.

thanks for your help.

The Panasonic 318 or 616 systems are basically plug and play. No special cableing need. All connections into the unit are basic RJ11s. Best part is that both touch tone and dial pulse work. For outgoing lines I use MagicJack lines (VOIP).

Thanks.... now I wish I had not bought the dial gizmo because if you can plug in rotary phones and dial with the system.... then....I just wasted money
on the dialgizmo.
Oh well.....

wait a minute.... do I have that wrong ?  is this a system only for incoming calls ?  or can you plug in rotary dial phones and the system converts them to tone ?
Sorry....  I don't know anything about how this works.  All I want is for the bells to ring when a call comes in.

thanks

OK.... i saw this online....  is this what I need to get my old 500's to ring ?

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000AYWAR2/ref=pd_sbs_229_t_0?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=3Q76BTBCNCZV773VR00T

This is what I use, as do many others on the forum. there is also a 308 you can use.

The 308 allows for 3 incoming lines and 8 phone lines. The 616 allows 6 incoming and 16 phones. You could also wire up additional phones to either. They are reliable and cheap.

There is a lot of details on the forum, just do a search.

This new system can be expanded to 8 lines and 24 extensions. However, as shown, it is equipped for only 3 lines and 8 stations. The expansion cards are expensive.

With the Panasonic 616 or  818 you can call extension to extension (bells ring) or you can call out to the world or receive calls from the world (bells ring) if you have an outside line connected to the Panasonic. You don't need an outside line if you just want to call extension to extension.

That unit you show from amazon may require amphonol connectors for the cables.

As Tom has pointed out, the Panasonic System is easy to install and use.    They accommodate a good number of incoming Central Office (C/O) lines, and a substantial number of extension lines.    Accept touch tone and pulse dial sets.   The only issue may be the need to purchase a Panasonic proprietary telephone set to program the the KX-T61610, or make changes to the existing program in order to set the unit up to perform as you yourself, want it to.
I have a KX-T61610 and a KX-T61630 proprietary telephone connected to it.    Once it's connected to an C/O telephone line, you simply dial "9" from any extension connected to the KX-T61610to obtain dial tone from your telephone service provider, and dial a telephone number in the normal fashion.
I believe that the KX-T61610 is no longer made, but parts and the units themselves, are still readily available.   For an example of what these units sell for, here's a link to an eBay page showing several listings for the unit.

Link :    http://www.ebay.ca/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.XPanasonic+KX-T61610.TRS0&_nkw=Panasonic+KX-T61610&_sacat=0

Proprietary telephones needed to program this system are : KX-T61620;  KX-T61630 and KX-T61650

Have a great day.

The 616 and 818 come with a default programming. The proprietary phone is used if you want to make changes. I use the default programming as it serves my needs.

The KX-TA824 has standard modular jacks (RJ-11 style) for both the CO lines and the station ports.
Here is one listing @ $155 including shipping (new):

Thanks everyone for your posts....  I am really looking for something that is REALLY simple to use and set up.  Basically plug and play.... which one of these would you recommend ?  really... I know nothing about any of this.... I just want to hook up my rotary phones and have them ring when a call comes in.

and where would I get it?

thanks

How about on eBay, starting with the URL links that Poplar1 and I posted.     Both Panasonic units support touch tone and pulse dialing.   The unit that Poplar1 posted is being listed as "new".    That's hard to beat.

The KX-TA824 will work with Touch-tone or rotary dial single line sets. Also, non-dial sets can be used: You can program certain station ports to automatically call another extension or even call an outside number. (I had my non-dial 554 at the front door programmed to call my cell phone, using the KX-TA824.)

Searching on the US site shows some better prices (starting at $25) than the ebay.ca site:
