If this topic ever comes up on a search engine, might as well post last photo. 

Final question occurs to me.

Getting the receiver out took some time for it to soak and no holes to make a tool such as the one Meyers mentions in his book.  Long & short: don't think I'd want to do this again.

So for future reference.

Is there a 'trick of the trade' to cleaning bakelite components-- esp. transmitter & "spit cup" without having to take apart?

Are you sure there is not a letter after D3--for example, D3A or D3H?
