So, I am not sure still what is inside your second set?   Empty or not?
You also mentioned AB1, is that what is marked?

Yes, the inside is empty. The condenser, network, and ringer aren't there. The housing is marked AB1.

Hmm, it seems it donated more than blood: its organs!

What does the base look like?  Does it have a brown phenol mounting block where the ringer is supposed to be?

I believe so. The ringer mount doesn't have any evidence of a ringer ever being installed.

WesternElectricBen is giving me a $eamed F1 from late '37. I would get a seamless, but they cost too much.

I don't think a seamless HS is appropriate, or at least unlikely. These were used in the field trials it seems and were probably not mass produced.
Starting mid-year 1937 the F1 was finally in mass production by the accounts in the BLR.

Here is the '37 after!

The housing and lift were powdercoated in high gloss black. The dial plate was from 1952, so I replaced it with a '37 celluloid plate in good shape. The original '52 handset is standing in for the picture; the replacement '37 is on it's way.
