Has anyone every taken the straight handset cord out of a G1 handset before.
I got one in the mail today, and wanted to swap the cord to the 48-500 set. It appears that the cord is installed form the inside out, and needs to be removed the same way.

That is interesting.  They must have changed it by the time my 1951 had gone in for a facelift in 1953, because mine is not that way.  Yours must be an earlier (and rarer) version.  Some guys get all the luck.

It came out of a 1955 G1, and I doubt it's ever been removed.
I think it may be a later version.
