Are you sure it is a buzzer?

It reminds me of a relais box. The kind that switches between 2 extentions. When one goes off hook, the other gets disconnected.

But I have never seen a wooden one. But I have by no means seen everything.

Looks real, original, right down to the black cord cable ties used to hold cloth covered wires together but the wood phone guys will know best.

It's interesting that the wood has a 311A stamped into it but wasn't the 311A the equalizer tube in early 500 sets (A/B)?

This is what seems to be an adjustable buzzer component in the eBay listing photos.

As previously stated Western Electric used the same number for many items that it produced. Consult the numerical index for Bell System Practices for examples.[
The item in question most likely is designated an "interrupter" and not a "buzzer." I haven't downloaded the photo just yet but it probably was used to generate a tone.

Note the variable retardation coil with the movable iron core to adjust its impedance and limit the dc current. Off-hand I would guess it is part of a composite signaling system for Railroad applications.
