I just purchased this phone and was wondering if I could add a dial to it, and if so, which dial is correct for the phone?
I like the shape of the handset it is very round looking and smooth.

1040's are for magneto (local battery) service. Do you have a picture of the inside? Might need to switch out the condensor and coil, but those are easy to find. Will also need a ringer. The hard part was finding a shell that isn't cracked, which you have done. Looks nice.
Here's what should be with the phone. Looks like the Seller split the box away from the phone to maximize his profits. After looking at the bottom of your phone again, there are screws missing, so I wonder if there is anything at all on the insde.

Kellogg started making dials again about the time the K1000 series was introduced. So you could look for a Kellogg dial or an AE will also work. Seller could have shown the inside of phone so you would know what you were not getting. In any case, the induction coils and condensers are plentiful; they plug in like radio tubes. Straight line ringers and Kellogg dials are somewhat more difficult to find.
I guess you may use it as cb signalling, lb talking just by adding a dial. 2 aa batteries will last for more than one year!

Metal 1000s are far less common than bakelite ones, but at least they don't break like the bakelite version.
The "HB3" on the bottom indicates that it was shipped with a harmonic ringer. SL ringers for these are not easy to find, but there is enough room to accommodate an M1A or other small ringer. You just need to come up with a clever way to mount it.
