Where to find the date on most older phones ?

This may be a dumb question , but I can't seem to locate the date on my 500s or on other older phones !

I am new at this hobby ! Be kind !

???
Never met a phone I didn't like !

Well. If it is not on the bottom somewhere, you can take the body off by loosening the two screws on the bottom and taking a peek inside!

The dates will usually be like 5/43 or 12/52

The first number is the month, the second is the year.

Don't be surprised if you find many different dates on your phone's parts as Western Electric loved to recycle pieces to enhance profits!

Welcome to the hobby!

Let me know about it!

This should help you figure out where to look, and what you might see.

The easy to find dates are on the network, ringer, dial, receiver element and transmitter element.

Welcome. You can also learn a lot at Paul Fassbender's site, Paul-f.com
Paul is active in the clubs and this forum and has collected a lot of great information and photos which you might find easier to navigate and learn the basics than the club sites (which he also has a hand in)

Welcome.  It's definitely not a dumb question. Keep asking questions.

As Jim mentioned, you might find some ideas here for WE 500 sets:

Unfortunately, most other manufacturers weren't as obsessive at marking dates on components, so don't be surprised if you don't find dates easily.

There's seemingly endless entertainment in careful examination of a phone that's been out of the factory for over 50 years -- trying to determine what parts were original and whether any replaced parts were done by the manufacturer, a third party or more recently by a collector or seller.

Electric Al;

Welcome to the forum.
The title of your post I thought it was a thread about losing something.  ::)
