As Robbie said, the Northern Telecom Centurion was orange/red, with a plastic (brown, black, green or blue) cover which covered up the colour of the chassis. It was done this way so it would be very noticeable if one of these was vandalized. I don't have a photo of the assembled Centurion without the outer case, but the following photo of its interior will give you an idea of its colour...

On a humerous note: Oranges were never considered legal tender for a pay phone call. :)

An Orange one, or a Lime Green one, would look awesome.

Are the rotary coin phones as pictured still in service in The Netherlands?

Wasn't there a hotel/motel chain famous for its orange phones?  Maybe they had orange payphones.

I think they are all phased out. When we switched over to the Euro these phones could not be adapted. At least not economically.

By now pulse dialing is only possible in a few kinds of subscriptions.

In the UK in the late 70s & early 80s, we had British Telecom-yellow payphones, not quite orange, I know, but it's close, the yellow in person was kind of a light orange... ;D

If orange payphones existed in the United States, then they would've been at Howard Johnson's.

FYI Howard Johnson hotels still exist but it's just the brand name owned by a major hotel chain.

From W@ikipedia:

Howard Johnson hotels and motels are now part of Wyndham Worldwide.
Howard Johnson's restaurants were franchised separately from the hotel brand beginning in 1986. The food and beverage rights to the restaurant are currently owned by Wyndham Worldwide. Only two HoJo restaurants remain as of March 31, 2015: one in Lake George, New York and one in Bangor, Maine which the company plans to close in September 2016.

Soon to join the ranks of Montgomery Wards. FW Woolworth's and such.  RIP
