The 37a varistor found on payphones using a F handset and induction coil, what would be a modern day replacement?

Close enough for Government work.  If you can find one that hasn't turned into a short circuit.
Or, give Payphone Installer (Jim) a call and get an original. Those don't turn into short circuits.
They turn into open circuits.
However, they do dress up a payphone.

Yes, I was looking at the varistor across the receiver on the U element.

Have a wacky Idea to put an F handset on my 212g, and turn my 534a subset into a 634a, and just mount both on the backboard. But maybe Ill just have it for show, and non operational.  Of course, I will not pass it off as a 190 series phone. It will be returned to original if i ever part with it.

I just asked Jim if he had any 1C single slot parts. I have a couple lower housings marked 1C with D internals. Might as well turn one back into a C set, seeing as I also have a couple of extra dial units that are correctly marked, and still wired for a C set. Actually, i need to find a coin first information plate. Hmm.
