Telephone Call Box ID?

I recently acquired this telephone call box and I am wondering what the original use and contents were.

The box is very nicely repainted blue. There is a sticker pasted on which has peeled due to the sun. Somebody has mounted a G1 space-saver inside. The back dial cover is also missing,(does anybody have any parts?).

The box is very large, maybe 12"x16".

If anybody has any information on this telephone, I would love to learn.

Thanks-Ken

Obviously it was used anywhere that a subscriber would need a telephone to be installed in an unprotected outdoor location. It has a knock-out for installing an optional lock. I suspect that the decal is not original to it.

Police beat officers them for reporting back to their stations and fire departments had them installed on street corners for use by the public to report fires.

Some of our other subscribers used them at oil pipeline stations, a slaughter-house, ranch corrals, rail yards, loading docks, etc.

Yes, the decal is just a sticker that somebody added later. My biggest curiosity is what the original telephone was inside. The space-saver was certainly added later. Could it possibly be like a gamewell phone, or like paul f's call box?

It's too new for Gamewell.
Since this is a very common outdoor enclosure, a quick search of the TCI Library will lead you to the relevant BSP.

Unlike the WECo 570-series emergency reporting telephones, your enclosure is generic, intended to house a variety of Automatic Electric and Western Electric telephone set. Notice the pattern of the protrusions for mounting a variety of models.

From the photos I doubt that a telco installed the kluged-up WECo G1 hand telephone set with the AECo dial..

Here is a catalog excerpt showing a similar model to yours.

Thanks. I may just keep the G1 in there, after switching for the correct dial and placing a small subset inside.

Ken.

Possibly this was sold on ebay by Cadillac-modela. Here is another of his "creations."

It's only $2,195

The seller is Dan Cauldon a past president of the ATCA and lives in San Luis Obispo, California.

The light, WECo 211, and the E1 compact ringer (painted black) are not authentic to the Gamewell box.
He does do a good job of putting it all together and has all of the metal parts powder-coated.
