Hello,
I just spotted this 1956 F1W Handset in my parts bin and would like to buy a 1956 5302 Body for it. If anyone has a 1956 date stamped 5302, please let me know.
Thank You,
-EW.

Are you sure? According to poplar1's date topic, it seems an F1W handset would not have been found on a 5302

From his post:  http://www.classicrotaryphones.com/forum/index.php?topic=11422.msg125729#msg125729

5302(conversions only) (1955-1963)  2-6-63 housing found with Bell System markings

            Handset:
                  F1-type
                  GF-type
                  G1
                  F4

The 4-11-62 set I have has an F1 handset. F1W handsets were used on partial phones sold to another phone manufacturer for completion and sale.

F1W handset would be ok if the housing did not say "Bell System."

Interesting! I was just going off of the dates and trying to think of a good companion for the handset. Thanks

This handle is only marked Western Electric Company. Were all F1Ws marked like this?
Thanks

"W" after a part number means "without Bell System markings." These are parts or phones that were sold outside the Bell System.

My point was that if your handset had been used with a 5302, the housing of said 5302 would be marked "Western Electric" but not "Bell System made by Western Electric."

At the place I worked in the 70s, we had a supply of NOS 5302 housings (without Bell System markings). We used these to replace broken housings on 302s. So we did not have the adjustable ringers or the updated markings on the bottom of the phone.

Great Information, Thanks! Would a 1956 stamped, "non Bell System" 5302 Housing exist?

I believe the 5302s housings were made from 1955 - circa 1965. My friend Bill who worked at the Atlanta WE Service Center said they were no longer converting 302s to 5302s when he started in 1964, and I don't think I have seen a Bell System 5302 housing later than 1963.

I guess you also know that the 5302 was never manufactured as a new set. They were only conversions of 302s.

Yes, I just like matching up numbers and everything on this handset (handle, caps, receiver, trans) are all stamped 1956.
I do have a nice 1937 302 with a grooveless F1 handset, so I am covered there.
Thanks again for your help!
