New forum members are very welcome and encouraged to take a guess. After all, there are no wrong guesses, just one lucky one. No one knows the winning bid on any auction until it ends. However, it is important to get your guess in before someone else grabs your guess.
Listed just a bit more than a day ago in a 7 day auction with no reserve starting at $9.99 is what seems to be a variant of the phone we just saw in Auction Contest #175 (http://www.classicrotaryphones.com/forum/index.php?topic=14304.msg149133#msg149133). This phone was flagged in a post by zapper (http://www.classicrotaryphones.com/forum/index.php?topic=14488.msg150623#msg150623) with a reply from jsowers directing interested members to paul-f's site for more information (http://www.paul-f.com/wef.html) on this phone.
With that said, the phone has attracted 5 bidders placing 5 bids in 24 hours driving the price up to $81.00 I'm sure that's not going to be the final selling price but I don't have a clue of how high this listing will go when the bidding ends. Anyone think they know what that final number will be when the dust settles?
NOTE: we will use a 3% gap rule between guesses to prevent crowding. As such, guess gaps of 6+% can be split. I'll help with these as the auction goes forward and guesses are entered.
So, once again, who best knows what this phone will sell for when the actions ends? This should be an interesting contest.
The seller listed it as an "Vintage c. 1957 Bell Systems Western Electric G3 Rotary Telephone" with the item condition as "Used" and " - - - " with the auction listing description simply saying "Up for auction Western Electric G3 Rotary Telephone. Bottom is stamped Bell System F-52578, 8-57. Unique phone haven't seen any on ebay. Please see all pictures before bidding. Thanks for your interest."

Here's the near final 3% "no crowding" gap spreadsheet for this contest with 20 guesses. The wide range of guesses so far have left plenty of available guesses throughout the whole range but there is a section that has become quite popular in the mid to high teens.
Available guesses or guess ranges are shown in GREEN within the small upper right black bordered box.

And the winner of Auction Contest #178 is Sargeguy who with the 3rd entry into the contest offered the winning guess of $1,100.00 to give him his 13th auction contest win extending his championshipness to 3 wins over the next highest winners! So, a big congratulations go out to Sargeguy for another win in the CRPF Auction Contests and for moving up one more rung into the wild blue yonder of the Contest Standings list of winners.
Once again we see a last second snipe by a bidder placing theirfirst bid winning the auction. The last few seconds saw 2 snipes doubling the $577 bid placed almost a day earlier and in the end, 5***9 ( 1192)'s one and only bid of at least $1,136.11 just 3 seconds before the auction ended gave him the win and the right to take the phone home. The phone was listed at $9.99 and over the 7 days, attracted 14 bidders placing 24 bids.

Thanks again to all who played. As always, there is only one way to get on the winner's board or move up a rung - you have to play to win.
Just noticed, for what it's worth, the seller of this phone just put up a Shmoo in a BIN auction at Contest 176 pricing.

But, it's missing the dial center.
