Until I see it in my own hands, I am not sure how far I will go with it. Of course it needs a thorough cleaning, and the mouthpiece needs repair, and likely complete cleaning of the insides and dial, but I will likely leave it looking distressed rather than painting it...
They are interesting phones. It will go nicely alongside my JYDSK wall phone...

They are interesting phones. That dome at the bottom of the cradle shaft is not just for decoration. It is the bell of the ringer.
The later D30 has the same kind of ringer system.
Also the workmanship is (or at least it was) of very high quality. Also the way it was made, makes it very restorable.

Yes, I think it will restore pretty well - and the price was pretty good, although the cost of shipping hurt.
I do have an oriental "version" of this, but the real deal will be much better. Yes, I do like the way the ringer is the dome. Looking forward to its arrival and getting a chance to clean it up. I also have a NT Rendezvous and the NT AGB Plane phone coming, so that should keep me busy for a while....

My Kjobenhavns Aktieselskab phone arrived in the mail yesterday. It was, of course filthy, and needs work.
I have had a bit of a chance to do some cleanup and to do an initial assessment.
The mouthpiece had come loose from the adapter which fastens the transmitter to the handset. I was able to fit it back in and solder the brass so that it now remains in place. It will require a new handset cord, and the dial though working has a bent fingerwheel.
Oddly, it has the counter inside, but this is not brought out through the case. The case has no cutout. Perhaps some of you who are more familiar with these phones can tell me if this is normal? I can't see that it is, as there is no way to check the counter without removing the cover.
Does anyone have any information on removing the dial finger wheel? It looks as though I can get closer to it if I remove two screws in the dial center, but perhaps someone could confirm this.
Electrically, the phone appears to be in pretty good shape, and the majority of the work will be cosmetic.

I worked on a few of these for a customer several years ago. Quality made phones, had real nice white silk cords. I remember one had the same setup, counter inside with no window. I did not pay much attention to it as I was doing just a cord swap. I also recall some had real gold plated parts!
I did get into the dial on one and if I recall correctly the dial center was held on by a snap ring. After removing that there were 2 screws on the finger wheel.

Thanks for the info. I got the finger wheel off. I hadn't noticed the snap ring,. The two small screws appear to only hold the number card to the dial - under it with it removed, there is another center screw which removes the dial. Now they are off and I can straighten out the finger wheel, clean and polish it.
The body of the phone cleaned up nicely, but the handset is going to be a pain in the butt. However, I enjoy working on them - it would never do to buy everything NOS :)
The dial itself appears to be working well as does all of the rest of the electrical - the bend in the finger wheel caused minor binding at one spot where it touched, but the dial without the finger wheel turns 100% freely.
So, the biggest chores now are cleaning the handset, changing the handset cord, cleaning, and straightening the finger wheel.

My D08 has the opposite problem: There is a cutout and window for a counter but no counter below it. Also, although mine has a dial, the terminal strip does not have as many terminals as the diagram for the automatic version of the phone shows. I suspect that when these were refurbished for resale in North America, the parts were mixed and matched. Mine got a base for a manual with a shell for an automatic with a counter.
The dials on these are very similar in design and construction to the British GPO dials. Mine has a nice porcelain number plate with Danish lettering. It came with a paper overlay with North American lettering.

Yes, Larry. I understood that these white ones have had a make over. They had parts altered to look more antiquey and the color is not original.
I too suspected the covered up counter to be caused by mixing and matching parts when it was made over.
Larry, Dave: Y'all need to swap housings.

I got quite a bit of work done on the phone this evening. As previously reported, I got the finger wheel cleaned, polished, and straightened, and no have it back on the phone.
The bell and handset post has been polished, leaving the cradle to finish polishing.
Next comes what to do about the ratty handset. It has a lousy paint job - I will have to remove what is on it now and start it again from scratch, then will have to replace the handset cord.
But I am pleased with how well it is coming - a perfect task for a cold winter's night!
What I am looking for is a source for a handset cord for this phone - I have checked Old Phone Works, and don't see anything that would appear to have the correct length of wires in the handset end to connect the receiver and transmitter. If anyone knows of a source, please let me know.

Hi All:
Work on the phone is progressing. The handset handle has now been re-painted - the handset parts polished. The next step is to find a replacement for the handset cord (search not going well - no one seems to have a cord to fit this phone).I may yet re-paint the earpiece and transmitter cup.
Below the "now" photo is a photo of it as it arrived.

Yes, I was surprised. I just used bathroom tub and tile cleaner and a toothbrush to scrub it, then wiped off the grunge!

You can usually find the Americanized versions pretty cheap. As I said earlier some have very nice white silk cords. Might be worth picking one up to steal the cord.
