I can find 16 wiring diagrams for the 1243-series in the TCI Library but obviously I missing something since I am unable to find and reference to them in contempra's link.

5th one down in Contempra's link (1242, 1243, 1247...)

Thanks, since a link to the specific page was not provided I ended up with the following document:

Desk Set Boxes: 1156, 1224, 1226.
Chime Boxes: 1217, 1218, 1220, 1218.
Handsets: 15, 16, 19, 20, 21.

But congratulations to contempra for the effort. It is nice to see our newer members take the initiative and search the library to resolve obvious questions.

But he did provide the link in Reply #2. It worked for me.

The instructions that I provided were provided by Stromberg Carlson. If the others work as well then of course that is also fine.

However I am still trying to see what I missed in relation to the link provided by contempra. Did I miss the 1243 reference?

The instructions that I provided the link to are found on the back of the wiring diagram furnished with each 1243---i.e., *also* "provided by Stromberg-Carlson." Here is the link again:

Here is Denis's link from Reply #2

I appreciate all of you helping me out, but.. When you say "obvious," it makes me think you are trying to say that I'm an idiot for not looking though TCI library, which I did. If you read the original posting in this thread, you can see I was having issues, thinking I had the incorrect diagram, but it was user error.

Probably not G-Man you didn't miss someting ;).. I just did a search on the model 1243 on TCILibrary and j, found at least 2 or 3 things in relation to this model.

Contempra

Thank you Poplar for your nice comment  about my effort I appreciate and It makes me appreciate even more the phone and this forum ;) :)

I was attempting to encourage contempra and others for taking the initiative and nothing more.  It was an attempt to be gracious to one of our fellow members. I was also an attempt to help you in your quest for information regarding your project so thank you for YOUR courteous reply.

....Calm down, please.

Like I said, I really do appreciate you helping me.

No one has disputed that you provided correct instructions from a previous thread. I also provided instructions that came directly from a Stromberg Carlson document. No one is attempting to be argumentative, this is the wrong list for that sort of behavior; try the TCI list and a.p.b/s.k. instead.

Once more thank you for your contributions and those of contempra's as well.

Poplar1,

I have no clue, I will look for that. This is a wall phone.

A wall phone?   The 1243 is a desk top set with a dial.  Perhaps someone switched the housing.  I recall seeing a set on eBay some time ago, that was a wall phone, but had the wrong base, or it was the other way around, I can't recall exactly.
Can you post pictures?

The wall phone should be the 1250, and the 1258 has a magneto built-in.

That is possible, it is plastic and was given to me by a very old phone collector, who doesn't use the computer etc. I'l try to take a picture tomorrow, or sometime hopefully soon.

You are right, it must be a 1250 case on the body that looks like this: http://tinyurl.com/l955s79

There are different wiring methods for 1243s. This may have to do with which network was used. Here's an old post about different 1243s:

http://www.classicrotaryphones.com/forum/index.php?topic=6350.msg75807#msg75807

A 1243 and 1250 base are basically the same, other than perhaps the presence of feet on the desk phone and a hole in the backplate for the station wire on the wall phone. However, since someone "married" a wall housing with a desk base on your phone, it's possible that that person (Humpty Dumpty) didn't get all the wires in the right place.
