My SC 1248 arrived today and I'm happy with it. The only real issue with it is that the magneto is hard to turn. How do I go about troubleshooting this problem? I hope its nothing major.

foots,

Does the ringer ring when you crank the magneto?  If you disconnect the wires from the magneto terminals, is it easier to turn?

Larry beat me to the punch, a magneto under load will be stiff turning. It should almost spin when no load is applied.
There are twp felt wick oiler spots, put some lightweight oil in there, and turn the crank over until adding more oil does not soak into the wick.
if still stiff, a good cleaning may be in store.
